Concerns over misuse and corruption in the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme across Kurnool district, especially in private hospitals, have reached a critical stage. Despite the government’s allocation of ₹20–₹25 crores every month to support free treatment for the poor, unauthorized charges and exploitation are rampant.
After personally visiting the NTR Vaidya Seva main office and lodging a complaint, a statewide enquiry was initiated. It revealed:
- Ineligible hospitals were granted empanelment.
- Eligible hospitals were sidelined.
- 97% of patients reported paying money despite the scheme being cashless.
In Adoni and surrounding rural areas, the poor, often uneducated and unaware of their rights, are forced to sell properties or take loans just to get treated — defeating the very purpose of the scheme.
This is not just a policy failure — it is a humanitarian failure. A call has been made to:
- Form a Vigilance Committee at the district level.
- Monitor and penalize corrupt hospitals.
- Ensure strict implementation of the scheme as intended.
If left unchecked, this malpractice will not only harm public trust but also damage the image of the government which is genuinely investing crores in healthcare for the poor.
