The fate of quality medical education in Andhra Pradesh has become a major flashpoint. The core of the debate, highlighted in the video “YS రాజశేఖర్ రెడ్డి , జగన్ చేయలేదా ? మెడికల్ కాలేజీలపై అబద్ధాలు !!” (YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Jagan didn’t do it? Lies about medical colleges!!), revolves around the government medical colleges built or planned under the former administration of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The YSRCP’s vision was to establish new government colleges across the state to make medical care and education affordable for all, particularly for students from poor financial backgrounds. They view this as an extension of the public health legacy started by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
However, the current NDA government’s decision to hand over many of these recently constructed institutions to private players under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model has sparked outrage. Critics argue this move is a form of privatization that will drastically increase fees, crush the dreams of aspiring doctors from low-income families, and weaken the state’s public healthcare system.
The question for the people is whether this is a pragmatic financial reform or a betrayal of the commitment to public health.
