As the monsoon arrives, farmers are lining up for fertilizers, especially urea, which is in high demand. Due to sudden and large-scale demand, both government and private outlets are facing shortages. Farmers are concerned that they are either not receiving full quantities or are being forced to buy additional products along with urea.
The central government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is heavily subsidizing urea and DAP. For instance, while urea costs ₹2,236 to produce, the farmer only pays ₹266 — the rest is covered by the government. Similarly, DAP is subsidized with over ₹1,000 per bag.
However, supply issues are arising due to hoarding, black marketing, and panic buying. Farmers are urged not to buy in excess or store beyond their need, as this creates artificial shortages and affects fellow farmers.
To address this, Nano Urea has been introduced — a liquid alternative that is more efficient and reduces wastage. It will soon be available widely and should be considered as a sustainable option.
Strict action will be taken against any dealer who charges above MRP or forces farmers to buy other products. Farmers are requested to file formal complaints in writing or with video evidence if they face such issues. The administration is committed to solving these problems, ensuring fair distribution, and verifying stocks regularly.
