In Kurnool district, the onion season has just begun, with an estimated 10,000 acres under cultivation. Groundnut crops are also arriving in the markets, mainly in Adoni and Yemmiganur yard areas. However, farmers are disappointed as onion prices remain below ₹2,000 per quintal, making it hard to even recover investment costs.
Many farmers allege that traders and middlemen are deliberately lowering prices through grading issues or quality claims. Despite the government setting a minimum selling price, farmers say they are not receiving it.
Local representatives are promising to stand by farmers, ensure fair prices, and keep strict market yard supervision so that no injustice is done. Farmers are urged to stay strong as efforts continue to secure better returns for their hard work.
