In Adoni, residents and local contractors are raising serious concerns over the skyrocketing sand prices. Despite the state government’s policy to supply sand at just ₹120 per ton, people are being forced to pay ₹18,000 to ₹20,000 for a 20-ton tipper, nearly double the actual cost.
Poor-quality sand is being sourced illegally from local streams and fields, with no proper filtration or certification, making it unfit for construction. Meanwhile, high-quality sand from official Reaches like Mantralayam is either being smuggled or overpriced during transit.
Authorities have announced a special task force comprising revenue, police, transport, and municipal officers to curb illegal sand movement. Every vehicle must carry proper bills, geo-tagging, and official loading details. Citizens are encouraged to file complaints if they are being overcharged.
The local leadership promises strict action against violators and assures that sand will be delivered at government-fixed rates. A crackdown is expected soon to ensure justice for the common people and to support contractors working on government and private projects.
